Investment Team Opportunities at Synthesis Capital
Overview
Synthesis Capital ("Synthesis") is a leading venture capital investor focused on food tech and alternative proteins, a high growth and high impact sector solving major global challenges. Having closed the largest dedicated food tech fund of over $300M in mid-2022, Synthesis’s small and highly-motivated founding team is looking for enthusiastic and flexible investment professionals who are motivated by Synthesis’s mission and position in the market and are willing to get involved in many different aspects of the firm as required.
Specifically, Synthesis Capital is seeking to hire two full-time investment professionals to join their team - one at Senior Associate and one at Associate level - to support senior management and to work throughout the entire investment lifecycle. These investment positions offer exciting and varied roles, and the opportunity to join a venture capital firm founded by a prominent and experienced team in food technology at an early stage of its development.
The successful candidates will enjoy and be adept at both investment analysis and relationship-building, and be flexible and comfortable applying their own initiative. Day to day, the successful candidates will be involved in many areas across the investment lifecycle including deal sourcing, due diligence (business plan analysis, investment case construction, financial modelling and other analyses), preparation of investment materials, through to deal execution and post-investment portfolio management, monitoring and value creation activities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Market analysis: undertake ongoing market research to help identify new investment trends and opportunities, as well as to assess key market changes for existing portfolio companies
- Deal sourcing and screening: assess new prospects for potential fit with Synthesis’ investment focus
- Due diligence: overseen by a Partner, manage diligence processes through the full lifecycle of deals from origination through to execution; run elements of the due diligence process including company meetings, reference calls, financial and commercial analysis, Investment Committee memo creation and investment case presentation, and deal execution
- Portfolio oversight: work with and support portfolio companies, tracking portfolio performance and how they feed into fund level modelling
- Systems and Pipeline: ensure CRM is kept up to date; maintain deal pipeline database
- Network: Develop relationships with and support portfolio company founders / leadership, and high-potential targets
Required Experience – Senior Associate
- 6-7 years experience gained at a top-tier venture capital firm, private equity firm, investment bank, management consultancy (in the PE/CDD part of consultancy), and/or at a high-growth start-up (specifically in a Finance/Strategy/Analytical role) – at least 3 of these years must have been spent at a top-tier investment bank or management consultancy
- As part of the above work experience, must be adept at running transaction processes from start to finish
- Bachelor’s Degree (with MBA or other relevant Master’s degree preferred)
Required Experience – Associate
- 4-5 years experience gained at a top-tier venture capital firm, private equity firm, investment bank, or management consultancy (in the PE/CDD part of consultancy) – at least 3 of these years must have been spent at a top tier investment bank or management consultancy
- As part of the above work experience, must be adept at financial modelling and running financial due diligence processes
- Bachelor’s Degree

- Outstanding analytical skills with quantitative expertise
- Advanced computer skills, including strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with creating and evaluating financial models and investment valuation
