Leading Food Technology Fund, Synthesis Capital, Continues Growth with Four New Hires

• Synthesis Team • Press Release

26 October 2022, London - Synthesis Capital (“Synthesis”), a leading global food technology and alternative protein investor, today announces the expansion of its team with four new hires. The expansion comes after Synthesis earlier this year confirmed the closing of Synthesis Capital Fund I, the largest food technology focused venture capital fund raised globally, at over $300M.

Synthesis Capital’s founders have welcomed two new additions to its investment team with Shravan Shah and Shivani Oberoi joining as Senior Associates. Both talented investment management professionals have been recruited to support Synthesis’s investment activity and work with their portfolio of early-stage food technology start-ups as they seek to transform the global food system.

Synthesis’ supporting team has also expanded, with Matt Gill joining as Director of Finance and Operations, and Dana Shockman, Office Manager and Executive Assistant, hired to drive Synthesis’ day-to-day operations as the organisation continues its rapid growth in a dynamic industry.

The new hires follow this month’s earlier announcement of the appointment of Dr. Catherine Tubb as Director of Research at Synthesis Capital. Catherine joined from Planet Tracker (and prior to that RethinkX) to develop Synthesis’ research and understanding of disruptive technologies and their impacts on the food sector, as well as the implications on relevant agricultural markets, informing Synthesis’ investment strategy.

Synthesis’ rapid growth in the past year highlights the accelerating investor interest in food technology innovation. As climate change and food security have become pressing global issues, there are an increasing number of new start-ups seeking to address these challenges through innovation. As a team with a decade-long experience investing in alternative protein and food technology, Synthesis Capital is expanding to stay at the forefront of the evolving food technology market.

Costa Yiannoulis, Co-founder and Managing Partner at Synthesis Capital, said: “We are delighted to welcome Shravan, Shivani, Matt and Dana to Synthesis Capital. The expansion of our investment and office teams allows Synthesis to continue its growth journey supporting world-class food technology companies aiming to solve the world’s most pressing problems. We look forward to seeing what innovative solutions these companies can bring to accelerate the transformation of the global food system and as a team remain committed and ready to provide capital and expertise to these game-changing startups.”
